HAPPY BONFIRE NIGHT!



Guy Fawkes Night is also called Bonfire Night. This is a British celebration.
On 5th November, 1605, Guy Fawkes planned to kill the king of England by blowing up the Houses of Parliament. He was discovered and hanged.
Nowadays, children make "guys" and dress them in old clothes, a few days before the 5th November. Then they stand in the street and ask people for money. They usually say "a penny for the guy". The money is for the fireworks. Many families make a big fire, burn the guy and let off fireworks.
